Mulard said, “I think Paradise III does something very different in terms of genres. Other artists featured in the album include 3vd, Tmeupteddy, Majik, Adi Rei and junior UD student Claire Mulard. He really is in his groove with the rhythm in this project and you can feel it,” Karter added. “I’m pumped to hear the next project he drops! I love Sem he’s super easy to work with. It creates a super good vibe that makes you feel great when you listen.” I love the jazzy/soul influence he’s got in it. “You can hear through the lyrics how I have changed as a person, through my four years, since writing that original Paradise project.”ĭj Devin Karter ‘21, said, “Honestly, when listening to it, it feels like Sem is just sitting in front of you and you’re both having a conversation. “The inspiration behind it was just taking all the positives, negatives and in-between things that I’ve learned and trying to exhibit my growth not only as a student and a person but also as an artist.”Īccording to Sem this growth can be seen when comparing Paradise, Paradise II and Paradise III. “Paradise III” is the third album in his paradise series.
Sem was able to create his own studio in his VWK apartment and later in his house in the student neighborhood. “Paradise III” is streamable now on Spotify. I can tell people on campus are listening and that’s so cool.” He added, “Especially with Spotify, you can see there’s a playlist called the Sounds of University of Dayton every time I drop it’s like at the top of the list. They are always really supportive with that.” Speaking on how UD has responded to his music, Sem said, “UD has been great! We throw parties at my house and people will come through and I’ll maybe do a performance with my one friend who plays guitar. Cole, Logic, Tory Lanez, Kendrick Lamar and Mike Stud. Sem’s hip-hop music draws inspiration from artists such as J. I like to freestyle and I tried it at lunch one time and they’re like ‘Yo, this is pretty good.’ So, from there I went home and I recorded a really preliminary project and that was called Paradise.” Semerano started producing music in 2015 during his time in high school. All the songs for the album were recorded at Nvasion Studios in Cleveland and Home Studio in Dayton. “Race in this country is still the elephant in the room that no one wants to discuss.UD senior, Anthony Semerano (Sem)-a rapper, singer and songwriter-released his album “ Paradise III” on April 8. I’ve been making music my whole life.”Ģ5. Usually, before I make a new album, I’ll listen to the previous albums just to see where I’ve been.”Ģ4. “I’m always sort of reflecting on what I do on what I’ve done. I play all these different styles of music on one record. “I’m half Jewish, I’m half black, I look in-between. I consciously have to wake myself up and get a tape recorder because I hear it like a record.”Ģ2. “I’ve woken up from dreams and the whole song is there. I’m constantly cracking up and cracking everybody else around me up.”Ģ1. “They think I’m being serious when actually I’m a very big clown. “When I was a kid and I bought a record, I ripped that thing open, I wanted to know who was playing what, what studio it was cut at, who was the string arranger, who was the engineer.”ġ9. “I was taught by my grandfather that anything that your mind can conceive, you can have. I think that keeps one on their toes, creatively and spiritually.”ġ7. I like to change the physical environment I live in, change the people around me and try to experience things for the first time. “I always try to keep the circumstances in my life fresh. For me, it has been a very spiritual and musical rebirth.”ġ5. We were put here to do the best we can, and we should take our energy and improve our state of being.”ġ4. But there’s a lot of time when you’re traveling-time to think, time to be lonely. They think it’s hundreds of bottles of champagne flowing and private jets and money. “People don’t realize it, but no one lives that rock and roll life 24-7. I guess I have a strong feminine side.”ġ0. “I just need to know that I did the very best I could and that I was true to myself.”ĩ. I think that’s part of the reason why I’ve had longevity.”Ĩ. The human relationship is being diminished by this.”ħ. “We’re getting so pulled in by computers and technology, and our kids have their faces in the computers all day. I am just offering my gift that God gave me, and if somebody is moved by it, that’s beautiful.”Ħ. “People see my photos and think I labor over my image and I’m this cool, brooding artist. My mom raised me in a positive environment, with lots of love in my heart, and that reflects in my music.”Ĥ. “People always accuse me of being motivational in a way, like it was a bad thing, but that’s just how I was raised. “I made the record that my life had me make. “Music is my life, it is a reflection of what I go through.”Ģ.
